30 Tahun Setelah “Barbie Girl” Mengubah Dunia, Aqua Resmi Memutuskan Untuk Bubar.

Aqua resmi mengumumkan perpisahan mereka sebagai live band pada 18 Mei 2026 lewat Instagram. Dibentuk di Copenhagen pada 1995, band electro-pop Denmark ini meledak ke seluruh dunia dua tahun kemudian lewat "Barbie Girl" dari album debut Aquarium, sebuah lagu yang menuai gugatan dari Mattel atas tuduhan mencemarkan nama baik brand, namun akhirnya dismissed di 2002 dan justru membuka jalan kerja sama panjang keduanya, termasuk izin resmi untuk film Barbie 2023 milik Greta Gerwig. Mereka adalah band Denmark terlaris sepanjang masa dengan 33 juta album dan single terjual.

After many incredible years, we have decided to close the chapter of AQUA as a live band.
AQUA has been such a huge part of our lives, and together we’ve had the chance to experience more than we ever dared to dream of. We’ve traveled the world countless times, met so many wonderful people, sung together with millions of you, and shared memories that we will carry with us forever.

When you’ve been together for this long, you also learn when it’s time to protect what you’ve created together. For us, this feels like the right moment to say goodbye, while the memories are still strong, and while the love for the music, the story, and each other remains intact. From the bottom of our hearts: thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey over the past 30 years. Thank you for the love, the energy, the support, and for all the moments we’ve shared together.

Dalam tiga dekade berkarier, Aqua merilis tiga album studio: Aquarium (1997), Aquarius (2000), dan Megalomania (2011). Karier mereka mendapat napas baru di 2023 ketika "Barbie Girl" di-sample untuk "Barbie World" bersama Nicki Minaj dan Ice Spice, lagu yang masuk nominasi Grammy 2024. Ini bukan perpisahan pertama Aqua; mereka sebelumnya bubar di 2001 sebelum reuni di 2007. Kali ini mereka memilih pamit saat kenangan masih kuat dan cinta antar personel masih utuh. Musiknya akan terus hidup, "Aqua the Musical" dijadwalkan premiere di Copenhagen pada 2028.
